I need help in writting a degree work "Solving of potentially-conflict situations in air traffic control"Submitted by Anna on Thu, 08/10/2009 - 13:35.
Hello, everybody. I’m a student of the National Aviation University in Kiev. I’m working on a degree work about potentially-conflict situations solving in air traffic control. My aim is to characterize different methods of potentially-conflict situations prediction and solving but what is even more important I want to study a problem of air traffic controller’s choice of the best solution among several and in what degree this solution (choice) is preferable for a pilot. I understand that the choice depends on a situation, but we are all different and in the same situation one will decide to change plane’s height and another one will change its speed. I will appreciate a lot, if You help me, namely: “I am an ATCO – and in potentially-conflict situations solving I prefer …” or “I am a pilot – and I would prefer …” Thanks a lot! categories:

Hi there. You said it
Hi there. You said it yourself. The answer to your question depends on every specific situation, type of aircraft, relevant speeds, weather, other traffic...and the list goes on. Unless you provide specific scanarios with full details, I think that your question cannot be answered in a useful and meaningful way. Generally speaking haowever, in an ACC environment speed changes are applied to maintain separation, not to achieve it. Vectoring is used more often, and level change more or less as a last resort.
