Hi. In case there is a go-around during a visual approach, is it expected of the flight crew to follow the published instrument missed approach procedure or to make a visual circuit?
Section 4. Approaches 7-4-1. VISUAL APPROACH
A visual approach is an ATC authorization for an aircraft on an IFR flight plan to proceed visually to the airport of intended landing; it is not an instrument approach procedure. Also, there is no missed approach segment. An aircraft unable to complete a visual approach shall be handled as any go-around and appropriate separation must be provided. REFERENCE-

FAAO JO 7110.65, Para 7-2-1, Visual Separation.

Hey there,
An aircraft performing a visual approach is still an IFR aircraft, just performing the last segment visually. The aircraft should comply with a standard missed approach, or request to remain in a visual circuit.
Hi. The point is that both ATC and the pilot should know what the procedure will be beforehand. So I think it's better the intentions of the flight crew are made clear early enough on the approach. Or ATC should instruct them early on what to do in case of a missed approach depending on the traffic situation.

Go-around
Hey there,

Hope this helps.
